Podcast: Science with Sarah

Episode 1

In this first Episode, Sarah talks to her mom, Renée Jackson to find out what mathematics is really all about. Now retired, Renée Jackson was a math educator for 40+ years, teaching K-12 for a number of years before becoming a mathematics educator in the Department of Secondary Education at the University of Alberta. We cover the strands of math, the essence of mathematics, and the mystery of pi.

Show notes:

  • Clarification: it looks like the concept of pi (the ratio of the circumference of any circle) is introduced to students in Grade 7 (according to the Alberta curriculum)

  • Waiting for a video link to mom's card tricks!

Science with Sarah follows designer and visual artist Sarah Jackson on a journey as she explores her fear of algebra and tries to discover a joy for the hard sciences. Produced by the Office of Sarah.
