Office of Sarah Manifesto
Every so often, you have to take a moment to update your Manifesto. You’ve got one, right? Don’t we all, deep down somewhere in our guts? I find it’s incredibly clarifying to write it out, and a great way to set a clear horizon for where I’d like to go, in my work and in life. So, here is the (constantly evolving) Office of Sarah Manifesto, each paired with a quote or two from a human who has inspired my thinking, or who just happens to have some gorgeous, eloquent language that sums a particular thought up brilliantly.
Office of Sarah Manifesto
/ Create something every day. “Only put off until tomorrow what you are willing to die having left undone.” – Pablo Picasso
/ Categories are an illusion. “If you can design one thing, you can design everything.” – Massimo Vignelli
/ It’s okay to be different and do things differently. “Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.” – Lewis Carroll
/ Learning is the solution to boredom. “Normally, we do not so much look at things as overlook them.” – Alan Watts
/ Tell the truth. “Truth is so rare, it is delightful to tell it.” – Emily Dickinson / “If it can be destroyed by the truth, it deserves to be destroyed by the truth.” – Carl Sagan
/ Objectivity is a fantasy – own your subjectivity. “Reality is frequently inaccurate.” – Douglas Adams
/ The form the idea takes is a choice that changes the idea. “The medium is the message.” – Marshall McLuhan
/ All humans deserve to be treated with humanity. “There is love enough in this world for everybody, if people will just look.” – Kurt Vonnegut
/ The idea of perfection is flawed. “Have no fear of perfection — you’ll never reach it.” – Salvador Dali
/ Do what you really love. Respect where your enthusiasm takes you. “Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray.” – Rumi
/ You have everything you need to start. “Everything in the universe is within you. Ask all from yourself.” – Rumi
/ Success starts with self-love. “Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.” – Maya Angelo
/ Practice. “Talent is a pursued interest. Anything that you're willing to practice, you can do.” – Bob Ross
